Accumulator Service on German Equipment
We received the service call from the local customer, asking for the inspection of accumulator function on the equipment. The machine stopped with accumulator charging error message on the screen.
After the phone talk with the customer regarding the details of the problem, we scheduled an on-site inspection the next day.
This is a large medical production company with many machines made by Germany. The accumulators we saw on the machine are made by Bosch and Hydac. During the inspection, we found that one accumulator is empty with no pressure inside. This is a sign of bladder failure.
We know there are many customers in US are using European made accumulators due to their initial setup. This is not recommended. We strongly recommend the customers use US brand accumulators in US for the following reasons:
1) Unlike other hydraulic components such as pumps, valve, cylinders, etc., accumulator has different certificate requirements in different countries. A European CE/PED certificate has lower pressure rating then the standard US ASME certificate requirement. For example, an accumulator rated as 5,000 PSI in Europe is roughly equal to 3,000 PSI pressure rating in US due to this difference. We mentioned this many times in our technical articles. The user needs to know this very well to set up the product correctly.
2) European brand may have non-standard metric parts and fittings, which may be difficult to replace in US.
3) Using European brand lower the chance of the parts availability from other manufacturers, making the overall maintenance cost high.
Our accumulators are all ASME certified to use in US and interchangeable with all major brands on the market. By changing to our accumulators, the customers get the fastest technical support, parts availability for repair and save a lot of time and money.
